Introduction: Why visit the area?
Beside the usual tourist attractions such as walking and cycling routes,
fishing and sailing opportunities and local pubs for refreshments,
in this part of Fryslân you find the typical open horizon and restful silence.
But there is more to enjoy in this area such as
the mound and its church
from the 12th century at Hegebeintum.
This is not the only old church in Ferwerderadiel; within its borders there are a total of 10
medieval churches, all located on a mound in the middle of the respective villages.
And don't forget the windmill and the Ruurd Wiersmahûs at Burdaard, as some of the many sights in this area..
