Accommodation

Promoting tourism is one of the main aims of the local council of Ferwerderadiel. Accommodation is provided in old buildings with character which have been renovated, such as the 2 farmhouses on the mound of Jannum and the former vicarage at Ferwert.

Introduction: Why visit the area?

Beside the usual tourist attractions such as walking and cycling routes, fishing and sailing opportunities and local pubs for refreshments, in this part of Friesland you find the typical open horizon and restful silence.
But there is more to enjoy such as the mound and its church from the 12th century at Hegebeintum. This is not the only old church in Ferwerderadiel; within its borders there are a total of 10 medieval churches, all located on a mound in the middle of the respective villages. And don't forget the windmill and the Ruurd Wiersmahûs at Birdaard.

Jannum

jannumkerk One of the smallest villages in Ferwerderadiel can be found between Leeuwarden and Dokkum in the North of Friesland, and is called Jannum. It is famous for its Roman Church from 1150 AD, built by the Cistercian monks. Today it houses the Church Museum with its exceptional collection of sarcophagi from 11th and 12th centuries.
degolleOn the mound two farmhouses have been renovated and transformed into four comfortable apartments, each suitable for four people. On the ground floor there is the sitting room (with a bed-settee), kitchen and bathroom. In two of the appartments you even may spend the night in the old cupboard bed! On the first floor is a bedroom with two single beds. From all windows there is a splendid view over the Friesian landscape.
